About the Maternal Health & Infant Program
What is Positive Images Maternal & Infant Health Program? A non-medical support program for pregnant women on Medicaid, their newborns and their families and women up to 60 days after pregnancy.
The program assists parents in learning skills related to parenting issues, nutrition, growth and development.
A professional team (nurse, social worker and nutritionist) provides services in the mother’s home.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible, the client must be pregnant or recently pregnant (within two calendar months following the month the pregnancy ended), a Wayne, Washtenaw or Oakland County resident who receives Medicaid.

What Services does MIHP Provide?
A registered nurse, a registered dietician, and/or a social worker will visit the mother or infant at home and provide the following services listed below
Registered Nurse: • Prenatal Education • Mother Health Assessment • Infant Health Assessment • Safety Information • Growth and Development Information • Parenting Classes • Nutritional Counseling • Mental Health Counseling • Transportation assistant to all medical and therapeutic appointments
Registered Dietician: • Nutrition Assessment • Education and Counseling • Lactation Counseling • Referrals to community agencies • Parenting Classes
Social Work Services
Licensed Social Worker: • Psychosocial assessment • One On One Counseling • Referral to community agencies for personal, family and household needs • Emotional support and client advocacy • Parenting Classes
In addition, Positive Images Maternal & Infant Health Program will support pregnant and early parenting women with counseling, parenting education, home visits, transportation assistance, and resource referrals.
Hours of Operation
Hours of Operations: The multidisciplinary team members will work together to provide preventive health services. Referral forms may be faxed to Positive Images 24 hour secured fax line at 313-822-6946. The program office hours for referrals are Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Home visits are made with families at mutual convenient times.
